Dot Punctuation
The full stop is the most familiar dot in writing, but it is not the same in every script. English uses . (U+002E); Chinese and Japanese use 。 (U+3002); Thai uses ฯ as an abbreviation mark; Khmer uses ។ and ៕; Arabic-script languages use ۔; and Arabic-Indic numerals use ٠ for zero, which looks like a dot.

Using dot punctuation & marks

Unicode also encodes phonetic dot marks such as ˙ (dot above), ¨ (diaeresis) and ː (triangular colon, marking length). These are spacing characters, not combining marks, so they can be copied and pasted on their own.
Use the right full stop for the language you are writing: mixing 。 into English text looks wrong, and a plain . in Chinese text is typographically nonstandard. Click any mark above to copy it; each page lists its code point, HTML entity and keyboard routes.
- Click a round tile to copy the symbol; the “Copied!” badge confirms it is on your clipboard.
- Open a symbol’s page for its Unicode name, HTML entity, CSS and JavaScript escapes, UTF-8 bytes and keyboard routes.
- Use the dot separator builder when you need several items joined on one line.
- Use the bullet list maker when you want a whole list of dot-prefixed lines.
